Did Jesus Ever Claim to be God? (Part 2)

"Jesus never claimed to be God,

that was an invention of the church centuries later!"

Last time we looked at how today's skeptics of Christianity lay claim to the fact that Jesus never claimed to be God and his disciples never thought of him that way, it wasn't until four hundred years later that Christians forced the deity of Christ into the Bible.

However, Jesus made repeated claims to be God.  He never came out and said "I am God," instead he used language much stronger.  We saw last time that Jesus claimed to possess all of the attributes God, including omniscience (all-knowing), omnipresence (everywhere-present), omnipotence (all-powerful), and eternality (always-existing).

This time we will look at Jesus' claims of equality of God.  He didn't just claim to be sent by God, or empowered by God, but he claimed absolute equality with God.  These are some of Jesus' strongest claims of deity.  Check them out by clicking below:

Jesus Claims Equality with God in the Gospel of Mark:

Why do you call me good?  No one is good but God alone” (Mark 10:18)
*Jesus is trying to get this person to realize that they are not talking to a mere man, but God in human form*
*Since only God is 'good,' and this person called Jesus 'good,' this person was claiming Jesus was 'God'*

Jesus Claims Equality with God in the Gospel of Luke:

All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.” (Luke 10:22)
*Jesus claims the only way to get to know God the Father is by going through him, because he is the only one who has intimate knowledge of God*

Jesus Claims Equality with God in the Gospel of John:

I and My Father are one.” (John 10:30)
*Doesn't get much more clear than that; Jesus claims he and God are one and the same*

Then Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me” (John 12:44-45)
*Jesus claims to believe in him is like believing in God, and seeing him is like seeing God*

He who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9)
*Again, can't get much clearer than that, Jesus was asked if his disciples could see God and Jesus replied, 'you are looking at Him!'*
